Skills & Innovation
We have the capacity to innovate and push boundaries
OUR WINEMAKING INNOVATIONS
For nearly 60 years we have been driven by a powerful pioneering spirit and have been advocates for change.
Our winemakers, Thierry Walet, Camille Potaux and Emmanuel Couzi, work hand in hand with our winegrowers to create wine profiles that are dense, fruity, modern, or classic. For the rosé wines the preference is for fresh, aromatic, elegant, diaphanous profiles. And for the whites they seek freshness, tension, complexity and minerality.
On our estates, they willingly experiment with new winemaking techniques that break with convention to create exceptional wines. As witness the numerous accolades received by the wines of Domaine de Galuval. Our brands were already pioneers a decade ago in making organic, no sulfur wines. Year on year, vintage after vintage, La Résistance wines are widely acclaimed.
We build on the diversity and quality of our terroirs and strive to remain permanently in touch with modern tastes.
OUR INNOVATIONS IN PACKAGING AND PRESENTATION
Continuous innovation has been the speciality of the Union since its inception. And we work tirelessly to ensure that our presentation is in keeping with current consumer trends.
With the launch of new formats such as our 25cl bottle at the end of the nineties, the Bag-in-Box format or, more recently, 25cl cans, we have been, and remain, at the forefront of change.
For many years now we have sought continued improvement in our packaging. For example, by reducing the weight of our bottles, or using FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper and vegetable inks for our labels. For our bag-in-boxes, we work on long-term product development in concertation with our suppliers Every element, from the interior bag in plastic to the exterior carton, is scrutinized and adapted to reduce waste and make sorting and recycling easier for the end-user The elimination of the plastic carrying handle resulted in a reduction of 7 tons of plastic waste per year.
For this work Cellier des Dauphins was awarded first prize for Eco-Design at Millésime (a competition that rewards good practices in eco-design and responsible communication in the wine and spirits industry) in both 2020 and 2023.
THE ART OF BLENDING
Thanks to our great diversity of terroirs and grape varieties, once vinification is complete our winemakers have at their disposal a wide palette of aromas and colors with which to compose unique wines through blending. Over the years, our expertise in blending is what has made the reputation of Rhone wines. This art of composition is a fine skill that enables us to create wine profiles with a distinct identity, and offer beautifully balanced, expressive wines.
